Insects/Animals Around our House

c
The kids were playing outside in the water today when they stumbled upon this in our yard.
We do have extremely large rats here! In Norman, there were always squirrels squashed along the road. Here in Cambodia, there are always rats squashed along the road. It's SO gross!!!

We have a family who came to visit. They're here for a couple of weeks. We've enjoyed having them around! Their 8 year old boy here bought some crickets for the whole family to try. Cambodians eat lots of bugs - tarantulas, crickets, beetles and maybe other things. So here are some pics of the family trying the crickets. Cambodians deep-fry them and then eat them. They said that they tasted mostly like oil. Our helpers around our house finished them off - but they were taking the legs off and then eating them. They said so you don't choke on the legs.
Who knew?

This is a bug we found on one of our trees the other day. I should have put something up next to it so you could tell how big it was. It was several inches long. The boys found it in one of their bug books. It's called a "fulgoridae". You can check it out on wikipedia if you want!
