catching up. . .

So before we even really got started on this leg of life, the adventure began. From extreme miscommunication in LA to being sprayed with insecticide by the flight attendants while flying over east asia to being detained for over an hour by security in the airport in China, we were quickly reminded how the unexpected should always be expected when living abroad.

Our arrival in country has only confirmed that notion. In our first temporary apartment, we lived on the 5th floor on which you push elevator button number 4 to get to, our entire floor flooded (on the 5th floor??!!), we had multiple tightly sealed never-before-opened food items infested with overzealous ants, AND Davis had his bottle clogged on two separate occasions only to find that more ants had slipped into his formula were stopping up the hole on the top of his bottle!!

Hudson and Davis seem to be adjusting quite well. Fortunately, both boys have adjusted to the time change and are sleeping better than they ever have before. Hudson of course is sad at times and misses the U.S., but he's finding new friends and things he really enjoys here. Hudson loves Lucky Burger (the closest thing to American fast food), has just started in a soccer league, and has been the life of the party at two different weddings when he decided to show off his dancing skills. Davis, on the other hand, draws a crowd of people everywhere we go all wanting to pinch his chubby cheeks. They're all in shock that a 10 month old can be that big.

One incredibly encouraging event that happened shortly after we arrived took place when I was out house-hunting. Driving around a rather remote neighborhood, I ran into a guy that used to be my night guard back in 2000. Phnom Penh has over 2 million people!! The chances of us seeing each other driving down the street in opposite directions are extremely nominal. Anyways, back in 2000 a close friend and I were living with a group of young Cambodian Christians and a couple of those guys had a tremendous influence on this night guard. When I bumped into him the other day, he was incredibly excited to tell me that he and all his siblings were now followers of Jesus and heavily involved in a nearby church. I'm grateful that God gave me the opportunity to hear what He has been doing in this guy's life. (-jt)
